SMS credits
How SMS credits are counted, what happens when they run out, and how to buy more.
What an SMS credit is
Every SMS Slotwise sends uses at least one SMS credit. One credit covers one SMS part:
- 160 characters if the message is in English.
- 70 characters if the message contains Bangla script.
A short reminder normally fits in a single part. A longer message — for example one with a long business name, a detailed location, or several placeholders filled in — can run past that limit and split into two or more parts, using one credit per part. Email never uses SMS credits.
Tip Keep SMS templates short. Every character counts toward the 160/70 character limit, so trimming a template can keep a message inside one credit instead of two — see "Editing message templates" for how to change the wording.
Your monthly allowance
Your plan includes a monthly allowance of SMS credits, used automatically whenever an SMS goes out for any event where you've turned SMS on. See "Confirmations and reminders" for the full list of events and how to turn each one on.
Buying more credits
- Go to Settings → Plan & billing.
- Find the SMS pack option.
- Choose a pack and complete the purchase.
See "Plans and billing" for more on how billing works generally.
Tip Check your credit balance before a big push, such as a waitlist campaign or a reminder to past customers, so messages don't get silently skipped partway through.
What happens when credits run out
If you run out of SMS credits partway through the month:
- Any SMS that would have been sent is skipped, not queued — it does not go out later once you top up.
- You get a notification that your credits have run out.
- Email is not affected. If a customer has email turned on for that event, they still get it even when the SMS is skipped.
Tip Watch your usage in the run-up to busy periods — holidays, weekends, or a promotion — when SMS volume runs higher than usual. Running out mid-week means skipped messages, not delayed ones.
